Project Highlights:

The Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School is a public charter high school serving students in grades 8-12. It is the first charter high school using the Accelerated Learning Program in Indiana and one of only three in the nation.

The school has found a home in a structure that was formerly a Cub Foods grocery store located in the area known as the Meadows on the eastside of Indianapolis. The school, called “an anchor” by Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson, is yet another indicator of revitalization occurring in this once famous and thriving residential and retail center. Renovation of the building included building out space for science and technology labs, a full service state of the art kitchen and creating an IHSAA regulation gymnasium. The gymnasium construction required removing a portion of the roof system and raising it 7 feet, including reconfiguration of the steel girders and relocation of 4 rooftop HVAC units.

CTAS offers students an educational alternative that adapts current school structure and institutional practices to improve student performance, increase student commitment to academic achievement; encourage community responsibility, and ensure that graduates have opportunities for higher education and career-oriented jobs.
